SC Concrete Finish

Cement-based decorative and damp proofing coating

SC Concrete Finish is a decorative, cement-based resurfacing mortar designed for smoothing, resurfacing, rubbing, sacking, and restoring concrete surfaces. It also serves as a waterproofing coating for vertical concrete and masonry substrates, offering a uniform, water-resistant coating that fills internal voids while allowing full breathability.

  • Provides a waterproof barrier for interior/exterior, above/below grade applications on masonry and concrete.
  • Can be applied to concrete block, brick, stone, precast, or formed concrete.
  • Offers a consistent texture and uniform color, providing an alternative to traditional jobsite sacking mixes.

Application

Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is structurally sound, clean, and free from dirt, release agents, efflorescence, curing compounds, and other contaminants. Remove form marks and other protrusions to avoid show-through. Repair surface defects, such as cracks and voids, with SC Concrete Finish mixed to a mortar consistency. Prep areas by cutting back wires a minimum of 3/4” and repairing with SpecPatch or SpecPlug. Dampen the surface with clean water just before application.

Mixing: Mechanically mix SC Concrete Finish using a slow-speed mixer to thoroughly disperse the ingredients for about three minutes without over-mixing. Begin by adding approximately half of the required 5 quarts of liquid into a clean container and start mixing at a slow speed. Adjust the mixing liquid based on the application method. Gradually add SC Concrete Finish and the chosen admixture (water or StrongBond mixture) to achieve a heavy, pancake batter consistency. Allow the mixture to rest for three minutes to ‘fatten,’ then remix and adjust to the desired consistency.

Application Methods:

  • Brush-Applied: Use a six-inch cement mason’s brush to apply a heavy coat with long, smooth horizontal strokes, ensuring enough material is used to fill voids. All final strokes should be in one direction for an even texture and finish.
  • Spray-Applied: For a sprayable consistency, mix with 10-12 pints of liquid using plaster or low-pressure spray equipment designed for cement-based products.
  • Trowel-Applied: For a stiffer consistency suitable for severe water pressure conditions, mix with 7-10 pints of liquid.
