SpecPlug

Fast-setting hydraulic-cement mortar

SpecPlug is a fast-setting hydraulic cement mortar designed to instantly stop water flow through holes and cracks in concrete and masonry. It expands as it sets without shrinking or oxidizing, ensuring a durable repair.

  • Single-component, easy to use by just adding water.
  • Expands to form a strong, watertight bond to the substrate.
  • Sets in approximately 3-5 minutes, rapidly stopping flowing water.
  • Suitable for both vertical and underwater applications.
  • Certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for safe contact with potable water.

Application

Recommended Uses: SpecPlug is suitable for:

  • Basement and masonry cracks
  • Floor and wall joints
  • Manholes and sewer pipes
  • Tunnels and swimming pools
  • Below-grade foundations

Surface Preparation:

  1. Enlarge cracks to at least 3/4 inch width and depth, cut square or undercut, avoiding a “V” shape.
  2. Remove all grease, wax, oil, and contaminants, including curing compounds.
  3. Saturate the surface with water but ensure no standing water remains.

Mixing:

  • Combine a small amount of water with SpecPlug to achieve a putty-like consistency, using about 20%-21% water by weight.
  • Mix only what can be used within 2 minutes, about 9.5 pints of water per 50 lbs of product.

Application Techniques

  • For vertical and underwater applications, firmly hold the product in place until it sets, typically within 3 minutes.
  • Adjust mixing water temperature to control the setting time based on ambient conditions.

Curing

  • SpecPlug continues to gain strength if kept moist, with optimal strength achieved when wet cured for up to 2 days.

Packaging

  • Available in 10 lb pails and 50 lb pails.

Shelf Life

  • 18 months when stored properly in unopened containers in a clean, dry area between 45°F and 90°F.
